Yesterday we celebrated „Israel Day“ in Munich, together with the Israeli national holiday „Jerusalem Day“.
Our concert lasted about 30 minutes starting with a Hora Medley (Arr.: Yael Gat) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmUd1Ndtt00 and Naomi Shemer’s song „Od Lo Ahavti Dai“ (I haven’t loved enough) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4crKum73Ag&t=63s, which made our audience dancing together in circles!
Continuing with N. Shemer’s song „Chorshat Ha’ekaliptus“ (The Eucalyptus Grove) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7yJFBu386Q, where she describes her childhood at Kvutzat Kinneret, a kibbutz on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
Our next song on the list was a love song, also written by Naomi Shemer, called „Tilbeshi Lavan“ (Summer White) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js6nIPI5OM8&t=24s. This song is about a man who wishes to see his girlfriend in a white wedding dress by the next summer (we hope that his girlfriend said „yes!“).
As we play not only modern Israeli music, but also traditional Jewish music we performed our version for the traditional „Nigun & Freilichs“ melody https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPQnB8sK4qk.
We finished our concert with Israel’s most familiar song „Jerusalem of Gold“ (N. Shemer) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F671mZiScK0 and we were moved by the people who were singing along.
Israel Tag was a great opprtunity for us to share our repertoire with the people who lives in Munich and love Israel.
Hope to see you again next year!
